One way or another, I want to believe that they haven’t lost interest in the topic. And therefore, for the seventh time, I greet everyone who is interested in auto art and complex speech patterns. Today you will find “Autopost”, disgustingly overloaded with rays of the author’s adoration, about the heir to the legendary “Ferrari killer” and a representative of the small breed of “elegant Americans” – Ford GT. "YE BE WARNED!", as they say.

However, grace is a purely external, ceremonial thing. If someone suddenly, while reading previous similar texts, decided that, having slipped in the bathroom or received an electric shock, I would express myself in a high syllable, he will be disappointed. But for lovers of everything big, powerful and eight-cylinder under the hood of a GT, it will by no means befall them. A double dose of brutality to this sleek aerodynamic body is also provided by the fact that an almost identical 550-horsepower “heart” was previously found on such monsters as the Ford F-150 Lightning and Lincoln Navigator. The beast sits peacefully behind the driver and passenger seats, clutching a six-speed manual transmission. Although what am I talking about horses and top hats?. It would be nice to say a few words about the “folder” of our today’s hero. Moreover, his life was bright.

Back in 1963, Henry Ford II, who passionately wanted to conquer Le Mans, attempted to buy out his precious company from old man Enzo Ferrari. Of course, all the developments from the 24 Hours of Le Mans would go to Ford. These “developments,” by the way, were beyond competition at that time – Ferrari won the famous 24-hour races five times in a row, and were a very tasty morsel that could satisfy Henry Jr.’s racing appetites. But what the hell, the American agreed with the Italian. Enzo cancels everything at the last stage of negotiations, which infuriates Ford. The latter, wanting revenge, gathers all the forces of the company to hit the most painful place in the body of any Italian – the pride.

The fist capable of delivering such a blow was the GT40 – a car born with one single purpose: to come to Europe and destroy everything that crawls onto the track there. The mission was accomplished: from ’66 to ’69, Ferrari Cups (or anyone other than Fords in general) were not seen at Le Mans, despite all the changes in the regulations designed to strangle the American upstart.

30 and a penny years after the public humiliation of the Italian “grooms”, the first prototypes of the supercar were released, with which Ford celebrated two dates: the centenary of the company’s founding and the anniversary of those very victories at Le Mans. The body design almost completely repeated that of the racing progenitor – the same lines, a huge windshield, wide rear wheels. Except that the GT has added height: 43 inches versus the original 40. And the doors opened along with the roof section, allowing you to easily climb into the cabin. So they thought about tall people, as if they were marking my heart!

What the hell am I talking about… Oh yeah. For the sake of order, I’ll add the performance characteristics started above: the engine displacement was 5.4 liters. All this joy accelerated the one and a half ton handsome car to “hundreds” in 3.9 seconds, subsequently giving a maximum of 330 km/h. The number of horsepower and maximum speed, by the way, are so beautiful and round because they were limited by electronics. I would call it “protection from fools”, but for the disastrous consequences these numbers will be enough for them for three lives ahead… By the way, about fools and electronics. The car did not tolerate incompetence behind the wheel, because it had minimal auxiliary systems, as well as external body kits – even though the stereo system and air conditioning were left. Asceticism was due to Ford’s reluctance to spoil the spirit of those same racing cars of the 60s. However, this was only to the benefit of GT. Not too many of them are sitting in landfills these days, because daddy’s boys prefer simpler (and often smarter) cars than themselves.

But in the right hands, GT still works wonders. Everything down to the last screw in the body is calculated so that the car simply sticks to the road without any huge “benches” hanging over the stern. And I already said everything about the dynamics. So Ford, in its quest for minimalism, simplified production, reduced costs, and flexed its muscles in front of its competitors in such a way that they are still afraid. But there are rumors about the ideological heir to the model. In 2016, exactly half a century will pass since the victory at Le Mans..

Well, okay, now a little about the sad things: the GT was produced from 2003 to 2006. The planned circulation was 4,500 copies, but… it didn’t work out. Only 4,038 cars of this model were seen around the world.

But it’s not about the quantity, right? It’s no joke: in fact, the same car, with a difference of a little less than half a century, terrified the best European automakers both on the highway and on public roads. Yes, it’s not about innovation. If there was one thing the GT was the first to do, it was to give the phrase “two stripes” a second meaning, one that didn’t horrify a man, but made him involuntarily break into a satisfied smile. Yes, the GT is not about mass production – the price of 150 kilobucks was already high during mass production, and now it has completely increased. Yes, the GT is not about environmental friendliness… But with all its nature, every bend of the body and movement of the piston along the cylinder, this car tells the driver: “Choose me and you will win.”. And you won’t just win, you’ll do it in style.”. And where it comes from, after reading the text above, it’s not difficult to understand – this is how its creators intended it: the best in its class, devoid of all the tinsel and trinkets, sporty from the tires to the stripes on the body. The winner.

This is where we jump from the express train of my delight to the station of regular morality. Just as the first GT40 was produced back in the 60s for a specific purpose, so every person should have his own place in life. With all my heart I wish everyone to find it, to develop in what you really love and know how to do, and not to stop at anything in your desire to come as close as possible to perfection in your chosen field.
